Video Flow // stand up paddleboard yoga sun A flow

We often start our yoga practice on land with Sun salutations the same is true on the water. Sun salutations are practiced to warm up the body, on the water they help us to feel grounded even with no ground beneath us. In this video I will walk you through a Sun Salutation A.

  • Begin with your feet hip width distance centered on the board, often the handle is located in the center of the board and can be a good marker for your feet on your board. Connect all four corners of your feet into the deck pad, and use your core muscles to stabilize your body on the board.

  • Holding the paddle with both hands Inhale and lift the paddle up over head, exhale push the hips forward, keeping the core strong, pulling the paddle behind your head, micro back bend.

  • Exhale folding forward, bending at the hips with a slight bend in the knees.

  • Inhale come to a flat back, keeping your gaze on the board, placing the paddle on the nose of the board.

  • Exhale plant the palms, step the feet back for high plank, lowering the knees if you need to feel more stable, with shoulders over wrists, pulling the belly in.

  • Inhale shift the shoulders slightly in front of wrists,

  • Exhale lower the body a few inches above the board keeping the elbows tight into the body.

  • Inhale Upward down, keeping the thighs lifted off the board, turning your gaze up to the sky.

  • Exhale pulling the belly muscles in, lift the hips to the sky, downward dog.

  • Inhale lift the right toes up to the sky only as high as the hips.

  • Keeping a strong core, pull the right toes in between the hands, then lifting off the left toes, bring the left foot beside the right.

  • Exhale fold forward.

  • Inhale slowly rise back up to standing bring the head up last.
